Fencer Frank Battig was Austrian champion in individual épée (1962) and in team épée (1960, 1962-63, 1967, and 1972). He participated at the 1960 Rome Olympics in modern pentathlon and finished 39th individually, and 12th in the team event. He returned to the Mexico Olympics in 1968, competing in the fencing competition, but the Austrian épée team failed to reach the quarter-finals. At the 1954 modern pentathlon World Championships, the Austrian team, including Battig, finished sixth.
