Alejandro Quiroz was involved in numerous sports during his youth, which led him to pursue a career as a physical education instructor. He specialized in the modern pentathlon and was able to hone his skills while attending military school during the 1940s. This led him to represent Mexico in that event at the 1948 London Olympics, where he was 33rd in a field of 45 competitors. At the same time, he was coaching the military college in wrestling and headed the national delegation in that sport to the 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games.
After winning the national modern pentathlon championships in 1951, he attended that year’s inaugural Pan American Games as an athlete. He would attend other editions of both these and the Central American Caribbean Games in various capacities, as in the late 1950s he also earned certifications as a surgeon and began accompanying Mexican delegations as the team doctor.
