Biography

Chris Leach began his rowing career in his hometown of St. Catharines, Ontario, winning many regattas. As a crew member of the Canaidan national team Leach was selected to compete in the coxless fours at the 1960 Roma Olympics, but they were eliminated in the repêchage round. Four years later he returned to the Olympics, competing in the same event at the Tokyo Games. Once again, however, Canada was eliminated in the repêchage, eventually finishing fifth in the B Final to place 11th overall. Leach then founded the Peterborough Rowing Club and started the rowing programme at Trent University in 1969. Two years later he organised the Head of the Trent rowing regatta at the university, a very large regional regatta.
