Rower Walter Dießner won a silver and a gold medal at the 1976 Montréal and the 1980 Moskva Olympics respectively with the coxed fours. He rowed with the coxed fours together with his twin brother Ullrich. Walter’s son Jörg also became an Olympic rower. The twins also won four World Championship gold medals (1974, 1977-79) and one silver medal in 1975. In 1972, both won their first international merits by winning the coxed pairs at the Youth World Championships.
Walter Dießner won national titles with the coxed fours in 1975 and 1977-79. Both twins were trained as tool makers. Walter then turned to baking, and took over his father-in-law’s bakery.
