German rower Cerstin Petersmann was the daughter of her first coach Günter Petersmann, and the sister of Katrin Petersmann. Together with Katrin, she was a member of the West German coxed eights at the 1988 Seoul Games finishing seventh, as the only crew not reaching the final. Four years later at Barcelona, she then won the bronze medal with the eights.
At World Championships, Petersmann had little success in various boat classes from 1983, until 1990 when she won the silver medal in the coxless fours, and in 1991 she added a bronze medal.
Cerstin Petersmann won German national titles in 1983 and 1988 (with the coxed fours), 1986 (quadruple sculls), and 1990 and 1991 (coxless fours). In 1991 and 1992, she also won the title with the eights. Petersmann was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. During her active career, she became spokeswoman in both the German and International Rowing Federations. By profession, she became a special educator.
