Tom Amundsen

While studying medicine at Oslo University, Tom Amundsen started his rowing career in 1964 as a member of Norske Studenters Roklub, a club of which he was a member for his entire rowing career. He won several national championships in pairs, fours and eights, and competed in five international championships, with his career best being a silver medal in coxless fours at the 1971 European Open Championships. The same crew was selected for the 1972 Olympic Games, and four years later Amundsen again qualified for the Olympics in coxed fours. He ended his rowing career with several gold medals at the Master’s World Championships.

Amundsen finished his medical studies in 1967, specializing in neurology, and became one of Norway’s foremost specialists in spinal cord injuries, also contributing with research in his areas of expertise. Except for a year in UNIFIL (1988), his entire professional career was spent in hospitals in Oslo.
