Biography

Swedish rower Kjell Hansson represented Roddklubben Three Towns in the 1950s, earning a place in the eight for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Hansson and the Swedish crew missed out on a medal at the Games when they finished fourth, almost 10 seconds behind the Australian team. Three years later, he and the crew of Ulf Gustavsson, Lennart Hansson, Lars-Eric Gustafsson, and cox Bengt Gunnarsson won bronze in the coxed fours at the European Rowing Championships in France. In 1960, now representing Uddevalla RK, Hansson returned to the Olympics for the Roma Games where he competed in both the coxed fours and eight, with Sweden being eliminated in the repêchages of each event.
