Mike Begley pulled the stroke-oar for the Mound City Rowing Club four at St. Louis in the 1904 Olympics. Before moving to St. Louis, he had first settled in Boston, after emigrating from Ireland, and also competed for the East Boston Amateur Athletic Boat Club.
