Stewart MacDonald coxed US boats at both the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, the pair in 1968 and the four in 1972. He later became a rowing coach, coaching US boats and teams at the World Championships in 1981, and 1989-92. MacDonald represented the Union Boat Club. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1972 with a degree in history.
MacDonald started coaching the women’s team at the Kent School in 1973. He later coached crew at Belmont Hill, where he had prepped, while he also taught history. MacDonald also coached the varsity women at Boston University.
