Joe Ravannack was from New Orleans and, together with John Wells, rowed for the Independent Rowing Club at the 1904 Olympics. He was later captain of the Southern Rowing and Canoe Club, and a member of the Young Men’s Gymnastic Club. Ravannack worked in business for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, a local newspaper. He was also a member of the Fireman’s Benevolent and Charitable Association and of the St. Rose de Lima Conference of St. Vincent de Paul.
