Three US sculls were entered with the title going to the Atalanta Boat Club double of John Mulcahy and William Varley. They also competed together in the coxless pairs, placing second. Mulcahy had won a national title in double sculls when he was only 15-years-old, in 1891, partnered by M. F. Monahan.
