Biography
John Wells was from New Orleans and rowed for the Independent Rowing Club. He was a noted trainer of rowers, captaining the Young Men’s Gymnastics Club crew. He also raced in a career from 1888 to 1916, winning multiple local races. As a career, he operated a shoe shop on Poydras Street in New Orleans.
