Ian Turner sat behind his brother, David, in the stroke seat at the 1948 Olympics. Ian Turner was a 1951 graduate of U Cal Berkeley. The 1948 Cal team had lost twice that year to the University of Washington but turned the tables at the US Olympic Trials. Turner enrolled at Cal after serving in the Army in World War II. In the summer before his senior year in college, he married Alice Johnson.
