Laszlo, father of Nicky Szapáry, was an Austrian trap shooter of Hungarian descent who participated in three editions of the Olympics: Helsinki 1952, Roma 1960, and Tokyo 1964. His tenth place in 1960 was his best Olympic result. At the 1938 and 1939 World Championships, then representing Hungary, Szapáry won two team bronze medals. During World War II he fled from Hungary to Austria and then gained Austrian citizenship.
