Albin Killat was considered the best West German male diver prior to re-unification. He participated in three consecutive Summer Olympics starting in 1984 at Los Angeles when he finished seventh in the springboard event and fifth in the platform. At Seoul in 1988 he was an unfortunate fourth in the springboard, but failed to make the platform final, finishing 13th in the qualification round. At his last Olympics at Barcelona, Killat finished 10th in the springboard competition.
In 1987 and 1991 Killat won the springboard title at the European Championships. He added a platform bronze in 1985 and also won another bronze at the 1991 Worlds, in the springboard event. Killat won a total of 45 national titles.
