Gustaf Blomgren was five times the Swedish champion in springboard and platform diving. His dives were characterized by their steadiness. He won bronze in platform diving at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm. Eight years later, in 1920, he returned to the Olympic arena in Antwerp and narrowly missed another medal, placing fourth in both platform and springboard diving. Both events were dominated by American divers.
Blomgren lived in Göteborg (Gothenburg) all his life and worked as a conductor for the local tramways. He was married to Anna Augusta Svahn.
