Pedro Chappé was one of the central players in the Cuban basketball team of the late 1960s and 1970s. The Cuban team won the 1971 Central American Championships, and gained a bronze at the Pan American Games. They added another third place at the Munich Olympics. In 1974, Chappé and his team missed out on a third major championship medal, finishing fourth at the World Championships in Puerto Rico. Chappé later briefly functioned as the technical director of the Cuban team. He was working in Spain when he died of a stroke. His daughter, Taymi Chappé later fenced at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for Spain.
