Calvin Fowler attended tiny St. Francis College in Pennsylvania. He received almost no national acclaim as a collegian but after graduation joined up with the Goodyear Wingfoots and became an AAU star. In 1967 he led the Wingfoots to the AAU championship and made AAU All-America that year and the next. He played for the U.S. at the 1967 World Championships (placing fourth) as well as winning a gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games. In 1968 Fowler, a 6-0 (1.83) guard, was the sparkplug of the Olympic team which won the gold medal in Mexico City. After the Olympics he returned to AAU ball and had one year in the ABA, playing with the Carolina Cougars in 1969-70. Fowler later worked in sales and marketing for adidas and then became a United States Postal Service employee before retiring.
