Charlie Ogletree competed in sailing at four Olympic Games – 1996 to 2008, always in the Tornado multi-hull class, and always alongside John Lovell. The pair won a silver medal in 2004, and also won a silver medal at the 2004 World Championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Ogletree and Lovell had quite a year in 2004, also winning the North American Championship and the HRH Prince Sofia Trophy in Palma de Mallorca. They also won the US Sailing’s Rolex Miami Olympic Class Regatta in 1993, and 2005-06. Ogletree and Lovell were actually born on the same day, 11 October 1967.
Ogletree attended Tabor Academy prep school on Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts and went to college at Old Dominion University. He went to the 1992 Olympic Trials in the 470 Class, but switched to Tornado after not making that team. Ogletree worked as a sailmaker with Quantum Sails.
