Robert Whitehurst sailed in the 470 Class at the 1976 Olympics alongside his brother, Tom Whitehurst. In 1975 they had won the Youth World title. Their Olympic boat was named “Captain Card.” Robert Whitehurst attended Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, and also went to Pensacola Junior College.
