Paul Genevay was regarded as one of the best French sprinters during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and was selected more than 30 times to represent his country.
Primarily a relay runner, he twice represented France at the Olympics. At the 1960 Roma Olympics, Genevay ran in both the 200 metres and the 4x100 metres relay. Four years later, at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, he competed in the same events, and was part of the team that won the bronze in the relay. At the 1959 Mediterranean Games in Beirut, Genevay won two gold and two silver medals.
