Biography

Sam Perkins, a power forward, played college basketball for the University of North Carolina, helping them win the 1982 NCAA title. In college he was second-team All-American in 1982 and first-team in 1983-84. He was the fourth overall pick of the 1984 NBA draft, chosen by the Dallas Mavericks. Perkins played with the Mavericks from 1984-90, and then played with the Los Angeles Lakers (1990-93), Seattle SuperSonics (1993-98), and Indiana Pacers (1998-2001). Perkins was a member of the 1985 NBA All-Rookie Team. During his NBA career, Perkins averaged 11.9 points/game, scoring 15,324 points, and averaging 6.0 rebounds/game. In 2002 Perkins was chosen as a member of the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) 50th Anniversary team.
