Biography

Alexandros Papafingos was a Greek track and field athlete who specialised as a sprinter. Papafingos won the 100 and 200 metres titles at the 1924 edition of the Panhellenic Athletics Championships, and was part of the quartet that won the 4 x 100 metres relay race. The championships were used as the selection process for the 1924 Paris Olympics, where he ran in the two individual sprint races, but failed to advance from the heats in either. Along with Argyris Karagiannis, Andreas Paouris, and Ioannis Talianos, he was also part of the Greek quartet that reached the semi-finals in the 4 × 100 metres relay. The following year Papafingos was once again part of the winning quartet in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the Panhellenic Athletics Championships where he also finished in second place in both the 100 and 200 metres. Over the next couple of years Papafingos won multiple titles in the 100 and 200 metres in Egypt in addition to competing for the national team in races against a team from England.

Personal Bests: 100 – unknown; 200 – 22.8 (1924).
