Giuseppe Castelli was a sprinter who never managed to win an individual title, because Italian sprinting was dominated by Edgardo Toetti and Orazio Mariani at the time. However, Castelli specialised in relays and a few weeks before the 1932 Olympics, Castelli, Toetti, Ruggero Maregatti, and Gabriele Salviati set a new Italian 4 x 100 record of 41.0 at Firenze. The same four could not quite match that in Los Angeles, but still took the bronze medal. Castelli, who was killed in Russia during World War II in 1942, won 10 international caps from 1928-34.
Personal Bests: 100 – 10.9 (1928); 200 – 22.4 (1928).
