Biography

Salvatore Giannone was an Italian track and field athlete who represented A.P. Partenope Napoli where he specialised as a sprinter. In 1959 Giannone won gold in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the Summer Universiade with compatriots Guido De Murtas, Giorgio Mazza, and Livio Berruti. This earned him a spot on the Italian Olympic team for the 1960 Roma Games where they narrowly missed out on a medal in the same event, finishing fourth. Giannone also ran in the 200 metres at the Roma Games where he reached the quarter-finals.
