Biography
Mario Riccoboni was an Italian sprinter who first served notice in 1911 with 11.8. At the end of the year he left athletics for military service and then re-entered athletic activity in 1913. In the war, two years later, he was seriously injured in the tibia and sent home to convalesce, and was then able to compete in the Gare Atletiche Nazionali of 1916.
Domestically Riccoboni never won a national title, because of several strong competitors in the sprint such as Franco Giongo and Vittorio Zucca. Riccoboni’s only major tournament was the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics, where he was eliminated very early in both the 100 and 200 metres and failed to finish the opening round of the 4x100 relay, alongside Zucca, Giambattista Orlandi and Giorgio Croci.
Personal Bests: 100 – 11.0 (1911); 200 – 22.4 (1922).
