Biography

As an early pioneer of Dutch track sprinting, Evert Koops had the honour of becoming the first national champion in the 100 metres. Koops competed in the early 1900s, representing UDI in Arnhem. In 1904 he became the Dutch 100 metres champion, winning a second title in the event in 1909 along with also winning the 400 metres. As a good all-round athlete he was selected to compete in multiple events at the 1908 London Olympics. Koops ran in both the 100 and 200 metres in London along with the 400 metres hurdles where he made it to the semi-finals. He also ran in the 1,600 metres medley relay and competed in the standing long jump.
