Biography

Henning Johannes “Henry” Dafel was a South African sprinter who ran in four events at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics. The South African quartet of Dafel, Clarence Oldfield, Jack Oosterlaak, and Bevil Rudd won the silver medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay. In the individual 400 metres race Dafel reached the final where he finished in sixth place. He also ran in the 4 × 100 metres relay and the 800 metres, making it to the semi-finals of the latter. Dafel later moved to Australia where he lived in New South Wales until his death in 1947.
