Together with his brother Alfred Schwarz, Russian track and field athlete Richard Schwarz participated in the 1912 Stockholm Summer Games. Both siblings were of Prussian origin. Richard ran in the heats of the 100 metres but was eliminated. He was also chosen for the 4x100 metres relay, but the Russians did not start.
Richard Schwarz competed for many years, and a room in his house in Petrograd was dedicated to his awards. No data about his records was preserved after the repression, only those in the memories of his children. Schwarz died in 1942 from dystrophy in besieged Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He was buried in a mass grave at the city’s Theological Cemetery. After his death, the family was reprised for several years due to German occupation, losing all their properties.
