Helmut de Raaf was an ice hockey goalie who competed at three consecutive Winter Olympics with the West German and the re-unified German team in 1988, 1992 and 1994. In total, he earned 118 international caps and played at seven World Championships. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
Domestically, de Raaf played with Düsseldorfer EG (1980-83 and 1988-96), Kölner Haie (1983-88), ESC Moskitos Essen (1997-98), Grefrather EV (1998-99), and Mannheimer ERC (1999-2001). De Raaf helped Köln win German national titles in 1984 and 1986-88, Düsseldorf from 1990-93 and in 1996, and Mannheim in 1999 and 2001. In 1993 he was named German Player of the Year. He then started a coaching career with the youth team of Mannheimer ERC. With them he earned another 10 German national youth titles. De Raaf also founded a youth ice hockey camp at Bad Tölz.
