Danish sculptor Aage Nielsen-Edwin produced sculptures, statuettes, busts and reliefs in a naturalistic classical style. He was mainly influenced by his training at Carl Aarsleff. This resulted in highly conscious and distinctive motifs. He was also a student of Einar Utzon-Frank and traveled over the years to Paris, Italy, and Germany, before eventually emigrating to Iceland in 1946. In 1943 he was awarded the Eckersberg Medal. The plaster relief submitted with the original title Etude is probably one of two of this name dated 1934. The following year he used the figure on the extreme right of this work for a limestone relief in the 58 x 34.4 cm format titled Badende pige (Bathing girl), which is presented in the Vejle Art Museum.
