Chinese-born German table tennis player Qianhong Gotsch reached the quarter-finals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the singles tournament but lost to Chen Jing from Taipei 21-17 in the final set. In the doubles she lost in round one of the knockout stage with her partner Nicole Struse. Gotsch’s highest world ranking was #4 in 1999.
In 1986, Gotsch won the Chinese singles title under her Chinese name He. In 1987, she won the Student’s World Championships. In Germany, she played with SV Böblingen. In 1999, she won the European and the German ranking tournaments, and in 2000, she won the European Championships in the singles and silver with the team, and added the German national title that year.
Gotsch moved to Germany after disputes with the Chinese Table Tennis Federation and married a German, receiving German citizenship in 1998. In 1999 and 2000, she was named German Table Tennis Player of the Year.
