Biography

Óscar Ortiz was a Mexican tennis player who played professionally from 1991 to 2001. Ortiz achieved a career-best singles ranking of #141 in the world in May 1995, and a doubles ranking of #122 in the world in July 1996. He played on Mexico’s Davis Cup team from 1995 to 2001.

Between July 1993 and November 1999 Ortiz won two singles titles and eight doubles titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. He competed in the singles and doubles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, reaching the second round in the former before losing to Andrea Gaudenzi. The following year he made his one and only appearance in the first round at a Grand Slam when he and André Sá played in the doubles at the US Open. They had the bad luck to be drawn against the eventual champions Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Daniel Vacek, losing the match in straight sets. In 1999 Ortiz and Marco Osorio won the silver medal in the doubles at the Pan American Games.
