German flatwater canoeist Thomas Reineck competed internationally during his active career in all K-4 distances. He won five gold, three silver and five bronze medals at the ICF Flatwater Canoe World Championships. Reineck also won two gold medals with the K-4 1,000 representing re-unified Germany at both the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He also was a member of the 1988 Seoul K-4 1,000 team that finished sixth.
Reineck was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He was German champion in 1990-91 and 1993 in the K-1 500. By profession, he became a graduated machine construction engineer and worked with the municipality of Essen. In 2007, he became president of the Canoe Federation of North Rhine Westfalia.
