Samoa (SAM)

Samoa called Western Samoa until 1997, first competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and not missed an Olympic Games since. The Pacific country has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games.

Weightlifter Ele Opeloge originally came close to being Samoa’s first medallist in 2008 when she missed the bronze medal in the women’s super-heavyweight by just one kilogram. However, more than eight years later she became the first medalist for Samoa, with a silver, when two of the medalists in her event were disqualified after re-testing of their samples.
