Taekwondo was on the Olympic Program as a full medal sport for the second time, with the program the same as in Sydney – four events for men and women. Once again, nations were limited to four competitors, two men and two women, and once again, all four Korean taekwondoka won medals, this time winning two gold. China and Chinese Taipei also won two gold medals, with Chinese Taipei athletes adding a third medal, with a silver in men’s featherweight.
The 2004 taekwondo tournament was held at the Faliro Sports Pavilion Arena, or the Kleisto Gymnastirio Falirou, within the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex. Some early round handball matches were also contested at this venue.
