The 2006 snowboarding events were held in the Piedmont town of Bardonecchia, 90 km. west of Torino. The halfpipe and parallel giant slalom events for both men and women were again on the program. The program was enlarged by the addition of boardercross for men and women. Boardercross (also called Boarder-X) was an event in which several boarders, usually four, compete on the same course in match racing, and it can be quite rough and competitive, with many falls. The event advances to a final round after a series of elimination races.
