Snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Snowboarding was held at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park in the Mountain Cluster of venues in Krasnaya Polyana, about 60 kilometres northeast of Sochi/Adler, where the indoor events were contested at the Coastal Cluster. The entire Mountain Cluster of venues was built specifically for the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. The snowboarding program was expanded by four events with slopestyle and parallel slalom events for both men and women added to the standard program of halfpipe, boarder-cross, and parallel giant slalom.

The snowboarders initially had complaints about the venues, noting that the slopestyle course was too difficult and dangerous. American Shaun White, two-time defending champion in the halfpipe, had entered the slopestyle but withdrew from a stated concern for his safety. White had once been pre-eminent in slopestyle but did not contest it as much anymore, and his withdrawal, and comments, started a twitter war-of-words with Canadian favorite Max Parrot. Eventually some minor changes were made to the slopestyle and halfpipe and the events went off well with no major injuries to the boarders. Parrot would not even medal in the slopestyle, nor would White in his best event, the halfpipe.

The Americans were the leading nation in snowboarding in Sochi, winning 3 of 10 events and 5 of 30 medals. But 14 nations did win medals in snowboarding and 9 nations won 2 or more.
