Skateboarding at the 2024 Summer Olympics

Skateboarding made its second Olympic appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, building on its debut at Tokyo 2020.

The skateboarding events were held across two main windows: the street competitions took place on July 27–28, while the park events were held on August 6–7. Each discipline featured separate men’s and women’s events, with 22 athletes per gender in both park and street, for a total of 88 competitors.

The competition was held at the historic Place de la Concorde, which was transformed into Concorde Urban Park, a temporary venue that also hosted BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, and breaking. The venue accommodated up to 37,000 spectators daily and featured purpose-built street and park courses.

The use of Place de la Concorde underscored Paris 2024’s commitment to embedding sports within the urban environment and reflected the broader goals of Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which emphasizes sustainability and legacy. As a temporary venue, Concorde Urban Park could be dismantled after the Games, leaving no permanent impact on the historic site.

Paris 2024 also introduced several changes to skateboarding’s competition format and rules to improve fairness and clarity.

In the street discipline, athletes performed two 45-second runs and five single trick attempts. The final score was calculated using the best run score and the top two trick scores, each scored out of 100, for a maximum of 300 points. A new rule allowed athletes to discard a trick score immediately after execution, giving them the chance to attempt a better trick without penalty.

In the park discipline, skaters had three 45-second runs, with only the best score counting. Judging emphasized speed, flow, trick difficulty, and execution, with scores up to 100 points.
