Venues Forum di Milano, Assago, Milano, Milano

Figure skating at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games was held from 6-19 February at the Milano Ice Skating Arena in Milano. It featured 147 athletes (74 men, 73 women) from 35 nations. Medals were awarded in men’s singles, women’s singles, pair skating, ice dance, and the team event.

Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) was allowed to enter a maximum of 18 skaters, with a maximum of nine men or nine women. The results of the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships determined 83 total spots: 24 entries each in men’s and women’s singles, 15 in pair skating, and 18 in ice dance (the rest came from the results of the Skate to Milano event, which determine the Individual Neural Athletes (AINs).

There were several notable changes in figure skating from the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games to Milano-Cortina 2026, including rules, eligibility, participation, and the competitive landscape. The minimum age was increased to 17, up from 15, in response to concerns about athlete welfare and competitive readiness. Due to ongoing geopolitical sanctions, athletes from Russia and Belarus were not allowed to compete under their national flags. Still, some were permitted to compete as neutral athletes, without full national representation in events such as the team competition. Moves like the backflip, previously banned in competition, have been permitted again in recent seasons. Japan continued to be a powerhouse, filling multiple podium spots across disciplines, winning a total of six medals (one gold, three silver, two bronze). The gold won in pairs by Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara was Japan’s first Olympic medal in that discipline.

The United States saw a huge moment in women’s singles, with Alysa Liu winning gold – the first American woman on the top of the podium since 2002, ending a long drought and delivering one of the Games’ most iconic moments.

Kazakhstan made history with Mikhail Shaidorov’s gold in men’s singles, which was the country’s first Olympic figure skating title ever.
