The biathlon pursuit uses the results of the 10 km sprint to establish the starting times for the 12.5 km pursuit. Quentin Fillon Maillet had won that sprint and started with a 14-second lead over Norway’s Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen, with 16 seconds back to his teammate Émilien Jacquelin and Norwegian Sturla Holm Lægreid. Fillon Maillet was also the defending gold medalist in the event, but during the current World Cup season, five different skiiers had won the event, including Éric Perrot, Fillon Maillet, and Norwegians Johan-Olav Botn and Johannes Dale-Skjevdal, and Italy’s Tommaso Giacomel. The 2025 World champion was Johannes Thingnes Bø, who retired from competition at the end of the 2025 season.

Fillon Maillet’s lead didn’t help him much because of poor shooting, as he would miss five targets and finish seventh. Gold went to Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma, who had the fastest ski time and only one shooting miss. This was the only men’s event not won by French or Norwegian biathletes. Ponsiluoma’s victory was a bit of an upset but he had won World Cup pursuit medals during the 2025/26 season. Behind the Swede Lægreid took silver, his third medal in biathlon at the 2026 Winter Olympics, followed by Jacquelin with the bronze medal.
