Qualifying was scheduled for Tuesday, 17 February, but had to be postponed to Wednesday because of heavy snow, and both qualifying and the finals were held on the same day. Favored was the defending gold medalist Xu Mengtao of China, who had secured medals in five of the six World Cup events in the 2025/26 season, with one win. Other contenders were expected to be Australian Danielle Scott, bronze medalist at the 2025 World Championships, and two Americans – Kaila Kuhn, the 2025 World Champion, and Winter Vinecki, who had a gold and silver recently on the World Cup circuit.
The final started with two runs, with the top six based on the best run advancing to the final round. The four favorites made it to the final round, accompanied by China’s Shao Qi and Kong Fanyu. Scott had led the opening final round with a superb mark of 117.19 and skipped her next run, knowing she had done enough to qualify for the final round. Scott could not match that effort on her final run, however, and had to settle for the silver medal, as Xu scored 112.90 to defend her gold medal. Behind them Shao came in for the bronze medal to put two Chinese skiers on the podium. With aerials held as a medal event since Lillehammer 1994, Xu became the first to win two gold medals in the event, and the first to earn three medals, as she had a silver medal from 2014.
