The skeleton team event is a relatively new format that was first held at the 2020 World Championships and made its Olympic début in 2026. The times of one female and one male athlete are combined, and the event is decided with one run each. The best nations may enter two teams; in Cortina these were Great Britain, Germany, China, the United States and Italy.
As only competitors who were qualified for the singles were eligible, the British and German teams were considered favourites based on their respective results in those events. Mainly thanks to Matt Weston, who had already dominated the men’s singles, Great Britain won gold with Weston and Tabi Stoecker with a total time of 1:59.36. Weston’s time was good enough not only to make up for the deficit after Stoecker slid, but also pull out a lead of almost two tenths of a second over Germany #1.
The two German singles’ silver medallists Susanne Kreher and Axel Jungk clocked 1:59.53 and saved silver by just 1/100th ahead of Germany #2 with singles’ bronze medallists Jacqueline Pfeifer and Christopher Grotheer. Only Great Britain #2 with Freya Tarbit and Marcus Wyatt came within reach of the medals, but ended up in an unfortunate fourth place.
