Reigning Olympic Champion Sena Irie of Japan had retired from boxing after winning the silver medal at the 2022 World Championships. The winner of this division was Lin Yu-Ting (TPE), who was controversial as she had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing gender eligibility tests, although the precise reasons were never revealed. On her return home, Lin underwent additional tests that confirmed her eligibility.

Lin went into the tournament as the top seed and cruised into the final, with unanimous points victories over Sitora Turdibekova (UZB), Svetlana Staneva (BUL), and Esra Yıldız-Kahraman (TUR), to set up a bout against Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in the final. The final was easily won by Lin, with all five judges indicating that she had won every round. In winning, Lin became the first female boxer from Chinese Taipei to win a gold medal. Filipino Nesthy Petecio, who had won several medals at regional and World Championships, and was the silver medalist from Tokyo, was the other losing semi-finalist.
