The men’s team event featured sixteen NOCs, each with three players. The initial half of the total quota was awarded to the quarter-finalists at the 2024 ITTF World Teams Championships, while six continental qualification tournaments offered places each to the top-ranked NOC from each respective continent. Apart from the host nation France, the remaining slot was attributed to the highest-ranked eligible NOC based on the ITTF World Team Ranking list of March 2024.

China once again solidified its status as the undisputed king of table tennis, capturing their fifth consecutive Olympic men’s team gold medal. In a thrilling final against Sweden, the Chinese team showcased their exceptional talent and depth.

Winning his fourth gold medal in the men’s team event, in addition to his two golds from men’s singles, Ma Long became the most decorated table tennis player in Olympic history. The two other member of the Chinese team were Fan Zhendong, gold medalist in the men’s singles, and Wang Chuqin, gold medalist in the mixed doubles. The surprise silver medalist was No.7 seed Sweden, led by Truls Möregårdh, silver medalist from the individual competition. France, led by the Lebrun brothers, secured the bronze medal, defeating a valiant Japan 3-2. This was France’s first-ever medal in the team event at the Olympics.
