The women’s skeet shooting event at the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on August 3 and 4, at the Châteauroux Shooting Centre in France, featuring 29 competitors from 23 nations.

In the qualification round, Austen Smith (USA) led with a score of 122 out of 125, advancing to the final alongside Amber Hill-Rutter (GBR), Emmanouela Katzouraki of Greece, Vanesa Hocková and Danka Barteková of Slovakia, and Francisca Crovetto of Chile, who secured the gold medal. Amber Hill-Rutter from Great Britain claimed the silver medal, while Austen Smith of the United States took bronze. The final was intensely competitive, culminating in a shoot-off between Crovetto and Rutter after both scored 55 hits. Crovetto clinched the gold by winning the shoot-off 7-6. This victory marked a historic achievement for Chile, as Crovetto became the nation’s first female Olympic champion.

Rutter’s silver medal was notable, coming just three months after giving birth to her son. Her performance was slightly overshadowed by a controversial call in the final where she was adjudged to have missed a critical shot. Although video replays appeared to show that the clay had been clipped, the call stood as, unlike in World Cup events, video evidence cannot be considered at the Olympic Games and the decision of the judge is final. Crovetto was in her fourth Olympics while Rutter had been amongst the favorites in Tokyo before falling victim to Covid 19.
