Shooting at the 2024 Summer Olympics

Dates 27 July – 5 August 2024
Medal Events 15
Venues National Shooting Centre, Châteauroux, France

The 2024 Olympic shooting programme was very similar to that of 2020, with six events for men, six events for women, and three mixed events. Further, there were again five pistol events, five rifle events, and five shotgun events. However, the mixed team trap event, which débuted at Tokyo 2020, had been changed to a mixed team skeet event, which made its first Olympic appearance.

All the 2024 shooting events were contested at the National Shooting Centre, in Châteauroux, France, which was built specifically for the 2024 Olympics, construction finishing in 2017. There were slight format differences in the mixed air pistol and air rifle events, as the semi-final rounds were eliminated, with only four teams moving directly to the final medal round.

As expected, the Chinese shooters dominated in Paris, winning five gold medals and 10 medals in all, leading the medal table in both aspects. South Korea followed with six medals and three gold medals, while the United States was third with five medals. Nineteen nations won shooting medals in Paris, with nine taking home gold medals, as seven nations won a lone gold medal, in addition to China and Korea.

Among the men, China led with three gold medals and six medals, while the Korean women led with three golds and four medals. Overall, 84 nations competed in shooting at Paris 2024.

A few individual superlatives occurred in Paris, as American Vincent Hancock won his fourth medal in men’s individual skeet shooting. Hancock became only the seventh Olympian to win the same individual event four times (eighth, if including the 1906 Intercalated Olympics and Ray Ewry; also in Paris, Cuban wrestler Mijaín López would later win his fifth individual gold in super-heavyweight Greco-Roman). However, among these seven Olympians (and Ewry), only Hancock’s gold medals were not consecutive, as he had won in 2008, 2012, 2020, and 2024, finishing 15th in 2016.

Georgian shooter Nino Salukvadze, who began her Olympic career with the Soviet Union in 1988, became the first woman to compete at 10 Olympic Games, matching the record of Canadian equestrian jumper Ian Millar. Past her prime, she would compete in both air pistol and sporting pistol at Paris, but finished well down in both events.
