Defending champion Giovanni Cernogoraz from Croatia failed to qualify for the final by a very close margin, but his teammate Josip Glasnović won the final after a closely fought contest with the 46-year-old Italian veteran Giovanni Pellielo after a shoot-off in the gold medal match. Pellielo had two silver medals from 2004 and 2008 and one bronze from 2000 in his collection of Olympic medals, and once again missed the gold by a close margin. In the bronze medal match, Great Britain’s Edward Ling outclassed the 2008 gold medallist, the Czech David Kostelecký.
