This was the first time the 50 kilometre walk was contested at the Olympic Games. Tommy Green won the event by seven minutes, although a pack of three had been together at the 40 km mark. Ugo Frigerio added a bronze medal to his shorter walk gold medals from the 1920 and 1924 Olympics.
