Freestyle moguls was contested as a demonstration event at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, but moguls would become a full-medal event in 1992 at Albertville. France’s Eric Berthon was the 1986 World Champion and competed in Calgary, but he would finish only 11th. The title went to Sweden’s Håkan Hansson, who narrowly defeated Norway’s Hans Engelsen Eide. Finishing third was Frenchman Edgar Grospiron, who would win the 1989, 1991, and 1995 World Championships, and won the first Olympic gold medal in the event at Albertville in 1992.
